Can?t go wrong with the Virtuoso+

Bought the Virtuoso+, after doing way too much reading on grinders, to go along with my new Moccamaster and I am extremely happy. While it might not be good enough to make espresso, I don?t care, I only make filter brew.

S
Steven N.
A well built machine.

The Virtuoso+ is the most expensive grinder I've yet to purchase.I grind for drip (Moccamaster) 99.9% of the time and French press the remaining 0.01%--and utilize two grinders: one for caf, one for decaf..Since 1985 I've owned a Braun flat burr grinder, Capresso flat burr, Bodum conical burr, OXO conical burr, and now the Virtuoso+.First and foremost, the Virtuoso+ improves the taste of the coffee when compared to the others.I still have the Braun, Bodum, and OXO and when making comparisons will control the variables with respect to grind size (as much as the grinder allows) and weight to ±0.05 grams.Taking these variable into account, the improvement in taste with the Virtuoso+ is noticeable and consistent. And if solidity and heft correlate with build quality and performance, then the Virtuoso+ wins hands down in this regard, too.The ability to set the grind time to tenths of a second--and pulse if needed--speak to a brilliantly thought-out machine. Not to mention: there is near zero retention. Amazing! The question is begged: why only 4 stars and not 5. . . ?Static. Some beans and days are better than others, but the Bodum and OXO have shown themselves to be superior in this respect. It may be the dry winter, and/or our humidifier requires some attention, but these three grinders are playing on an even field--and the static problem is most pronounced with the Virtuoso+.Although our humidifier is functioning, I will be servicing it for optimal performance. If after servicing it the Virtuoso+ produces less static, I'll report back.In spite of the static, the Virtuoso+ has proven itself more capable than I would have thought--and, as such, highly recommend.

Love the grinder

I have an earlier model I also love, but this model has a a useful timer so I do not have to weigh dark roast coffee beans for each pot brewed. It is noisy but the grind is consistent for pour over Chemex brewing and for drip coffee maker.

I recommend you this one

I’ve owned this grinder for about 4-5 weeks. Actually, today I did the recommended cleaning and maintenance with the Grindz tables and the brush... I’ve been completely satisfied with this product! Trust in the specs and trust in the videos by SCG. I jumped from a blande grinder to this one and the difference on the grind consistency and the worryless state of mind trusting that the setting I chose will be perfect for my brew is just the best.Timer is pretty accurate on dose when you take the time to set it up for the specific brewing method. That being said, my main game are pour overs such as aeropress, chemex, french press, and lately some home cupping... This one is a good choice if you want to improve your brewing craft.

Awesome

This grinder works great! It is quick and relatively quiet compared to other grinders. Great grind consistency and get me from French press to pour over to aero press. The grind is a bit more fine than the info sheet suggests. I like to go a notch or two above the recommended setting depending on the bean I’m using. The timer is really nice and I am able to get the same number of grams every time. I also got the added shut off hopper which is good if your friends bring over 3 different bags of beans like mine do.

This grinder is awesome !

It took a minute to figure out how to put the grinder together, but once I did and dialed in the level of grind size I needed for French Press, it has been consistently great quality! It is a little bit louder than I anticipated, but it really isn't a big deal. Also, no problems with static electricity with the grinds in the removable container.

Finicky product perfect for total coffee nerds

Finicky. This thing is great when it works, but it requires more maintenance than I have patience for. It has to be cleaned after every use, and the adjustments are not the best. It regularly clogs and chews up gaskets. The espresso grind even at its highest setting is too fine and the course at its lowest setting is too course. This grinder settings are maddening. I suppose if you're a coffee nerd you'll love fiddling with this thing, but I don't. I have had for two years and have already replaced all the Key components at least once (burr, adjustment ring, paddle wheel, gasket (3x). Lots of good videos, including calibrating but I have had zero luck with the latter.

Fantastic Long term grinder.

I have now had this grinder for 9 years. It works very well, and I really appreciate the thought the company put into making the grinder easily serviced and repaired by the home user. I've had to replace the plastic burr ring a couple times, the timer switch (I have the previous model), and just this week I replaced the top burr. All at very reasonable prices. Great grinder. 10/10 would recommend to anyone, and have done so.

Good But Not Perfect

The best feature is the ability to repair the grinder through good product support. For drip coffee the grind quality seems very good. Very little static dust mess. Shortcomings. The grinder is quite noisy and not suitable for grinding in an apartment in early morning. I briefly tried a different brand that was much quieter and the digital timer allowed saved settings. No dial spinning to change settings for different amounts of coffee. This grinder died quickly. This baratza requires dial spinning especially with .1 gram adjustments. Also, when grinding for 2-3 cups, the amount ground varies more than desirable. For 10 oz of coffee, I now weigh the beans and than grind. Extra work.

So far I love it.

Quick, relatively quiet, looks sharp, and grinds coffee perfectly (I've used it for French Press, drip, and pour over)Very happy with it indeed. Seattle Coffee Gear got it to me fast and safely.

It's a Virtuoso.

Nice machine. Easy to use and fairly quiet (compared to my previous grinder, the Baratza Sette).Very easy and intuitive to set the timer. Setting the grind is easy, also. Remember, though, to empty all the beans before going from a large grind to a smaller grind.

Great purchase

Excellent grinder but not for espresso. Easy to clean and re-assemble except for the bean cone, a flexible plastic cone tge sits atop the grind burrs.

Decent grinder but SO LOUD!

This grinder is so loud... I received it as a present when I ran into issues with an old Vario I'd had for several years. I'm amazed at how much more noise this thing produces, and how much static there is in the hopper with the ground coffee.

Good grinder but could be even better

While I like the Baratza grinder it is noisy and not all of the grinds immediately come out. You need to run it once or twice for a few seconds after sitting awhile to get all of the old grinds out.The bin is an improvement over the old design which tended to move during grinding. For those who are perfectionists the timer is an improvement as you can get a consistent amount ground each time. They need to have a way to remove unground beans without having to tip the entire machine to get them out.

Great grinder, great manufacturer support

We love this grinder, we roast our own coffee and use this grinder for all of ours and some of what friends ask for, so we have put somewhere between 75 to 100 pounds of beans through it. We have had zero issues up until the other day..... The kids were still asleep, so I took the grinder to the garage so it wouldn't wake them up, and when I plugged it in I had the start button pressed (from how I was holding it) and it blew the fuse and circuit board. Barataza has YouTube videos on how to do repairs and all parts on their website, so for $35 I had it fixed in about 30 minutes once parts arrived. I didn't bother to see if they would fix it under warranty, but they might have. I am very impressed that not only do they have repair parts instead of having to buy a whole new one, they also have videos on how to do it. I would highly recommend any Barataza product now.

Very Happy!

First, Seattle Coffee Gear provided excellent service. At the time of my purchase, this product was in high demand and out-of-stock, but SCG had a shipment scheduled to restock their supply. I was concerned about placing my name on a waiting list and committing to an order. SCG exceeded my expectations and delivered my Baratza Virtuoso+ within a single week. Wow, thank you!I am very happy. This conical burr grinder preforms fantastic. It offers consistent uniform grounds. It's not near as loud as my former OXO. I wish the price of the product was not so steep but that is Baratza's issue not SCG. I will make SCG my first stop for all future coffee related needs.

Virtuoso is a good upgrade for me

While the grinder is pricey and typically noisy, it does a great job. I like the lighted bin and the electronic timer. It's not used for espresso so I can't comment on that.

Very nice versatile grinder.

Very nice grinder. I use setting 22 for my Technovorm drip coffee and 6 for the espresso setting for my Ascaso machine. I like the LED light in the coffee bin. The timer is ver nice but not necessary in my opinion. I was advised it was suited for espresso grind, but it seems to be doing a good job for me for espresso.

Great value for high quality grind!

It’s great, very happy with it! I used to hand grind my beans because I did not want to pay for the kind of grinder I wanted/needed for my pour overs. This was a great price for the high quality it provides.

Not up to expectations

Don't like it at all!
