Our Top 3 Superautomatic Espresso Machines for 2024

It’s time once again for our Top 3 Superautomatic Espresso Machines for 2024! We always love to give our opinions on the best machines of the year. This year’s list features entries from classic lineups, as well as a brand new machine for the list. Let’s get started!

Philips 3300 LatteGo - Fan Favorite

Philips is a longstanding stalwart of these lists, and this year we’re celebrating the most recent update to the 3300 LatteGo. The 3300 is a really simple to use machine that is a great way to get a consistent, flavorful morning cup of coffee. The LatteGo milk system also provides an automotive way to steam your milk that is easy to clean and maintain as well. But these are, frankly, the minimums you should expect from a decent superautomatic espresso machine. There are a few features that really put the 3300 LatteGo over the top for us this year.

First, this machine has received some great upgrades in the noise level department with the most recent model. In fact, with the new sound dampening that Philips added to the machine it achieved a Quiet Mark certification. Next, the clear, colorful interface on the 3300 LatteGo makes it extra simple to customize and tweak each of the 5 recipes the machine can produce. Finally the iced coffee button on the machine is a convenient way to get a chilled coffee beverage without any extra hassle, which is an excellent feature for a superautomatic espresso machine.

All of these features combine with the 3300 LatteGo’s under $1,000 price point to make it an easy choice for one of our favorite superautos of the year!

DeLonghi Eletta Explore - Best Features

The DeLonghi Eletta Explore is a new machine to SCG this year and it makes a truly compelling case for this list. Loaded with programmability and drink options, DeLonghi really knocked it out of the park with this machine. While it does come in at a more premium price, it justifies this well with its incredibly deep drink menu and truly evolved steaming system. This machine features multiple profiles for a total of 50 unique drink recipes. This is a huge number that we rarely see, and normally we would say it might be overkill. However, the Eletta Explore has such great cold and hot brewing options that we think a multi-user home could actually end up using a lot of those recipes.

The other thing we adore about this machine is its milk system. With a cold and hot carafe that is easy to use and clean, you can cold foam milk or steam it for your hot or cold drink options. Better yet, this machine handles alternative milks exceptionally well, steaming and foaming oat, soy, almond, and other plant milks efficiently and deliciously.

Finally, this machine has an innovative “to-go” menu that you can use with a travel tumbler. This might sound unimpressive, but there’s also a portion of the drip tray that flips up to accommodate a larger vessel, and the to-go options help you to brew the kind of volume you’ll want for a travel drink. This is a fresh feature that we’d like to see in more machines.

The Eletta Explore does all of this while also offering a vibrant touchscreen interface, which can also be accessed through a connected phone app, in case you don’t want to work on the machine itself. All of these features make this machine a really easy one to recommend for anyone looking for an option that’s loaded with high-end features.

Jura Z10 - Ultimate Pick

The Jura Z10 is really the cream of the crop of modern superautomatic espresso machines. This is an expensive machine that backs up that price with some of the all-around best quality espresso you can find from a superautomatic. While everything from a Philips Carina to the machines we’ve outlined on this list can pull a tasty shot of espresso, it’s inarguable that the care and craft of a carefully pulled shot done by hand is hard to match with any automatic machine. In the case of the Jura Z10, it gets very close.

Jura has been refining this brew process for a long time, and it shines alongside their new innovations in the Z10. In addition to the machine’s elegant design, Clearyl ready water filtration, and premium interface and controls, the Z10 actually adjusts its grind for each brew option. This means that you’ll get that subtle variation needed in grind size when going from a finer espresso brew to a coarser cold coffee brew (something else this machine does very well, for the record). We love this touch, because it really speaks to the high level of quality coffee that the Z10 uses to justify its higher price.

Of course, the Z10 also does a great job with milk, producing richly textured steamed milk, and it offers JOE app connectivity so you can control it from your phone.

When it comes down to it, we selected this machine for this spot on the list because of the quality of coffee that it produces, which is really the most important consideration when evaluating any espresso machine. We know it won’t disappoint you!

Miele CM5310 Silence - Honorable Mention

Each of these three machines is an excellent choice for our top 3 machines of the year, but we also wanted to give a shout out to Miele and the CM5310 Silence. This is a really excellent all around espresso machine if you’re looking for something that’s built very solidly and that has the flexibility to brew multiple drinks at a time. While all of the machines on this list can make two drinks, the Miele handles this task exceptionally well, and also features the ability to brew into a carafe in bulk if you need enough coffee for a group.

We also love how quite this machine is (as you’d expect from the name), and the simplicity that it offers with it’s slick one touch brewing option. It may not have quite the degree of programmability or flash that our top 3 has, but this is a fantastic machine for anyone who fits the criteria above and we’d be remiss not to give it an honorable mention.

Thanks for checking out this list, and be sure to give our video version of this top 3 a watch below!
