We've enjoyed sharing our Top 3s this year, and it's time for a heavyweight of a category - espresso grinders over $500! These grinders help you to bring the coffee shop experience to your countertop. Let's get into it!
Eureka Oro Mignon Single Dose Espresso Grinder
Eureka is a legendary grinder producer that builds smart options which continue to blur the line between home and commercial applications. The Oro Mignon Single Dose is an excellent grinder for anyone taking a single dose approach to their espresso crafting.
The workflow on this grinder is nice and simple - you dose your beans first with a scale, then pour them into the grinder and flip it on. It'll grind through your entire dose with minimal retention thanks to its tilted design and engineered grind path. Powerful 65mm diamond inside burrs make short work of your coffee, and the built in Blow Up Hopper bellows allow you to clear the grind path of any stray grounds. Finally, it all grinds into a convenient dosing cup that you can use to weigh out your beans and transfer the grounds to your portafilter stress free! Even better - with Eureka's sound insulation it does it all without a cacophony.
We love the performance and consistency of this grinder, and it makes for an excellent choice if you're angling for a fancier grind.
Fiorenzato Allground Sense Espresso Grinder
Fiorenzato is a newer face here at Seattle Coffee Gear, but this grinder is really great for those looking to get something that can handle espresso and pour over without needing two separate grinders.
We love the innovation on this grinder - while its weight based dosing may be growing more common, it's still of note. Additionally, the grind adjust on this machine is impressive, offering stepped micro-adjustments that allow you to switch back and forth between settings like a stepped grinder, but with precision you'd usually only find on a stepless adjust. The display even color codes the setting to tell you when you move from espresso, to stovetop, and filter settings.
The Allground doesn't sacrifice performance either, with 64mm "Dark-T" burrs that provide excellent grounds across its whole range. Lastly, tool-free disassembly means you can maintain this grinder easily without needing to break out the tool kit.
The perfect option for someone who wants something high tech and performative as a one stop shop for their grinding.
Eureka Atom W 65 Espresso Grinder
Eureka's Atom series is designed with the demands and volume of a commercial coffee shop in mind, but they work fantastically in a dedicated home espresso setup as well. The W 65, like the Allground above, uses weight-based dosing to ensure accuracy and easy repetition. Stepless grind adjust gives you the ultimate precision for those tricky light single origins, and this grinder's huge 65mm steel burrs make short, consistent work of your beans.
It's all controlled with an excellent and responsive color touch screen, which is a step up from previous Atom models. You can even go hands-free with the portafilter clamp, which is designed for the built in scale.
An excellent grinder for the ultimate espresso enthusiasts out there.
Honorable Mention: Rancilio Stile OD Espresso Grinder
For our honorable mention we want to touch on this little grinder from Rancilio. This powerful, stylish grinder option grinds powerfully with 58mm burrs. Timed dosing options give you the ability to recreate your doses with a more traditional timer, which some users prefer over a built-in scale.
One of the things we really love about this grinder is its micro-adjust. With hundreds of individual settings and easily accessible from either side of the machine, this adjustment makes it a little easier to understand and dial in the Stile OD.
This grinder represents some spectacular value, and is an fantastic option for users who want stepped adjustment and timed dosing without sacrificing higher end burr design and aesthetics.
