DeLonghi's superautomatic espresso lineup offers quite a bit of choice for users in the market for this type of machine. Touting simplicity without sacrificing performance, this category of espresso machine is a great option for beginners, or those looking for a great morning cup without a learning curve or hassle. But which DeLonghi is right for you?
DeLonghi Magnifica Evo
The Magnifica Evo is the most affordable option in DeLonghi's superautomatic lineup. That said, this machine still offers impressive performance and delicious drinks. One of the areas this machine differs from the other two that we're reviewing today is its milk carafe. the carafe on the Evo allows you to automatically steam milk for lattes and cappuccinos. The compromise with this model is that it doesn't offer adjustable foam, so your milk will only steam at one specific thickness. The good news is that we found that single texture to be quite good, offering thicker milk than the thickest setting on the other machines in the line.
Another area of compromise with the Magnifica Evo is its interface. As it lacks a touch screen, this machine relies on pressing and holding buttons to make adjustments to drinks. This does limit customization options and makes it a bit more of a hassle to switch up drink recipes, so it may not be the best choice if you need to offer multiple different custom recipes with ease.
We mention these areas of compromise because outside of them this is really a great machine. With great performance, strong ergonomics and design, and ease of use, the DeLonghi Magnifica Evo is a fantastic option in its price range.
DeLonghi Magnifica Plus
The Magnifica Plus has a lot in common with the Evo, as you might expect. This machine produces much of the same quality of drink, still has the carafe for milk steaming, and also follows much of the same design language that the Magnifica Evo uses.
The positives with this machine really are the ways it manages the shortcomings we noted for the Evo. Adjustable milk foam is offered through the carafe, making for some delicious alternative milk thickness options when brewing your favorite drink. The Magnifica Plus also trades those slightly challenging buttons in for a touch screen. This screen is legible and easy to navigate, making drink customization much more intuitive on the Plus compared to the Evo.
This machine is, as you might expect, a great middle ground between the Magnifica Evo and our final machine for today...
DeLonghi Eletta Explore
The Eletta Explore is DeLonghi's top of the line superautomatic espresso machine. Competing with some real sueprauto heavy hitters, the Eletta Explore really does a great job holding its own as a slightly lower price point that we expect from this level of performance and ease of use.
The Eletta Explore is notable for all of the same reasons as the Magnifica Plus, but with more advanced options for brewing and steaming milk it definitely has a little something extra. The touch screen is still vibrant and easy to use and will help you understand how to better customize your drinks. The steaming carafe actually takes the Magnifica Evo's carafe option a step further by providing both a hot foam and a cold foam carafe. This opens the door to some delicious cold coffee drinks, helped by the Eletta Explore's cold brewing options.
With 50 different customizable drink recipes and additional user profiles, the sky is really the limit on what you can do with the Eletta Explore. WiFi connectivity even gives you a connection to the DeLonghi app, further assisting with ease of use and setup. It's a really strong option if you want that top of the line experience and performance.
Each of these machines has something to offer, from the lower price point and simple efficiency of the Magnifica Evo, to the expanded drink options and programming found in the Magnifica Plus, all the way up to the very smart Eletta Explore there's really something for everyone here.
