Key Features

  • Grind Settings Galore! - With 60 different grind settings to choose from, you're sure to find the right grind no matter what you're brewing!
  • Adjustable Top Burr - By twisting off the top burr to manually adjust the grinders' default settings, you'll find you can grind to finer or coarser levels than the default calibration. We also recommend making this adjustment as it can extend the service life of your grinder.
  • Automatic Grinding - The Smart Grinder Pro provides a simple platform to support your portafilter for effortless activation of the auto-grind function–simply slide your portafilter under the grind chute and push it back until switch clicks.
  • Manual Grinding - Keep the activation button engaged with maintained pressure from the portafilter to take manual control over the grind time.
  • Removable Bean Hopper - Designed to contain 1 full pound of beans, this hopper features easy removal (one of the easiest we've ever used) with just a flip of the locking handle.
  • Pause Function - Pause the Smart Grinder Pro mid grind cycle to even out your portafilter. Once your grounds are evenly settled, hit the start button and the Smart Grinder Pro will grind through the remaining amount.
  • Programmability - The Smart Grinder Pro allows for an easy selection of your optimal grinding time per each shot within setting. Once your desired grind time is displayed on screen, hold the program button until the grinder beeps twice, letting you know your grind time is saved.

Overview

Just when we thought these burr grinders couldn't get any sharper, Breville introduces the Smart Grinder Pro! While this grinder can't exactly solve differential equations (but who can?!), it can determine the process for grinding through equal levels of coffee across separate grind cycles. Featuring Breville's innovative dosing technology, aptly named the Dosing IQ, this smarty-pants is designed to offer precise adjustment of your grind time in 0.2-second increments, along with easy saving functionality for quick storage of your preferred settings. All this in combination with the Breville Smart Grinder Pro's 60 grind settings will make you wonder how you ever drank coffee without it!

Great coffee grinder

We love our new Breville Smart Grinder Pro. We are enjoying great tasting coffee from freshly roasted coffee beans that we are purchasing from our local coffee shops. We had been using a Keurig prior to buying a new coffee maker and this Breville Smart Grinder Pro. There is no comparison in flavor, I didn?t know that coffee could taste so good. Having the smart functions make the grinding process very easy. There is no need to weigh or measure our coffee beans. Just dial in the grind size and the number of cups that we want to make and the grinder does the rest.

Breville Dmart Grinder Pro

As you often state on your site. The grinder is as important if not more important than the espresso machine. I found that using this grinder I?m able to adjust the grind to get the maximum benefit when then use an Amana meter on my espresso machine. A little tweaking and it just comes out great. I?ll also mention that I feel that I?m getting a better caffeine extraction process as I?ve had to reduce from 3 cups a day to 2 cups a day using the same beans. Even the same batch of beans I?ve noticed the difference. The grinder makes a difference .

Love it!

Love it! Perfect for fine espresso grinds and larger grinds for French press and cold brew. This grinder is what we were missing from our coffee setup. We own multiple Breville products and they never disappoint!

Just updated from the BCG800 to the BCG820

Just started using the new 820, I was happy with the old model but it stripped an internal plastic gear and the Breville service agent said that the part is not available from Breville so it could not be fixed, but sad really, but it did just over 3 years of good service. The upgrades to the grinder look good and they have replaced the plastic impeller with a metal, which is great, very happy so far with the 820.

Budgeting for a grinder... worth the investment?

Yea yea, in my world this is an investment. Been using a hand crank burr grinder for over a year after my last 2 electric ones short short short life spans and the frustration that ensued. I'm over the hand cranking, time to jump into something with a bit more...everything. I'm mainly an espresso drinker, and it took a day or two to dial in my grind. I was extremely caffeinated, but so worth it. I've been using this multiple times, daily (cause I love my espresso!) for about a month and I really like it. Easy programming, easy adjustments, no big mess after use, just empty the tray under the output. it's relatively easy to take apart and clean, I recommend a little stiffer bristle brush which I had laying around from one of my past grinder fails. So far well worth the investment! AND...YES, it does make a difference. GRIND MATTERS! (SCG, new bumper sticker?)

Less messy and consistent grind than the blade grinder

Works as expected. Can't get a dosing funnel under the spout, but other than that, no complaints.

Fun to Use Grinder

This is an upgrade from our previous Breville grinder. We love the ease of changing grind size and amount on a digital screen, and the automatic grinding that begins when our espresso basket is placed correctly. We have enjoyed experimenting with various grinds and brewing methods - lots of fun. We are Breville fans and this did not disappoint.

Good value and it's easy to clean

Good basic grinder for drip to espresso. A little noisy and it seems to work harder to do the finer grinds. The huge upside is that it is easy to disassemble and clean. Time will tell about the durability.

Great Grinder

The grinder provides a coarse enough grind for use with the Breville Luxe coffee makers, although I would have appreciated a coarser setting for use with other types of drip coffee makers.

Versatile grinder at a normal price point.

Easy to set up and use. Versatile. Quick adjustments. Thoughtful configuration like most Breville products. It does everything we need, sits attractively in a modest sized spot on the counter, and was reasonably priced. Not quiet, but it's a coffee grinder.

Not appropriate for espresso at all

Absolutely horrible grinder for espresso. My primary grinder is a Eureka 75mm grinder, but I got this for the office since it's affordable and does a variety of grind settings. Here are the big issues I see.First, it takes over 20 seconds to grind 18g of espresso. In contrast to my Eureka, which takes around 2.5 seconds and the other espresso grinders I've used that take only around 8 seconds. Most importantly, this grinder gets nowhere NEAR fine enough for espresso grind. I have it on its finest setting possible (1 out of 60) and my shots are puling 36 grams in about 12 seconds. These are fresh, good beans I'm using and they work fine in all of my other grinders. This has been a monumental waste of money. This grinder may be fine for other brew types, but if you're looking for an espresso grinder, go with something else.

Static garbage!

I loved my first Smart Grinder so when it came time to replace it of course I opted for the same newer one. BIG MISTAKE!!! It is nothing but a static mess! Poor?really poor Breville!

Great grinder

I've been using the Baratza Encore for several years and after rebuilding it a couple of times I decided it was finally time to replace it. After reading so many reviews about grinders, I decided to give this one a try. It looks great and it's pretty quiet compared to the Encore. So far so good. I like it. The grind has been very consistent. Hopefully it will last as long as my Baratza did.

Perfect Entry Level Grinder for the Burgeoning at Home Barista

I ran into trouble with my old grinders' inability to produce a fine enough grind for an espresso. The Breville is perfect for this and I love the digital adjustability of the grind time, # of shots, and grind setting. I still have my old grinder for more coarse offerings like Cold Brew & French Press, but this is my exclusive espresso/latte/cortado grinder. Bonus: It's also pretty quiet.

Great for the price

Great for the price. Grinds well. A lot of adjustability. But, Leaves numerous clumps. Grinds can be inconsistent. WDT tool is highly recommended when using this grinder to help break up clumps.

While I love my Breville Espresso machine I would not recommend the Smart grinder. My first one ceased to function in less than a year. The recommendation was not to use a dark or medium dark roast. With my second one I only used medium to medium light roasts. I make 2-3 espresso drinks a day and this one lasted about two years. Very disappointed.

Big improvement over a much earlier model!

This grinder corrects several problems I had with an earlier Breville grinder. The biggest issue is that the grinder output is confined almost entirely to the espresso cassette positioned below the grinder. The old grinder required an elaborate system to direct the output and capture the spillage. This is a HUGE improvement! The display is easy to read and understand, and settings are also straightforward. The grinder noise level is acceptable. I'm actually happy that the old model stopped working after 8 years!

The grinder is easy to use and makes a consistent grind for every cup of expresso I've made.

Works great for expresso. Love the cradle for portable filter and dose settings. Get a fresh cup every time.

Does this grinder grind the beans large enough for drip or press coffee makers. I saw another review that indicated the grinds were on the smaller size?
