What ingredients are in Joe Glo?
A shopper on Jun 21, 2012
Best Answer: This product works great. I have used unscented powdered dishwasher detergent with similar results. I would suspect the active ingredients would be quite similar (i.e. a concentrated alkaline, low-foaming detergent).

Will this work in a Jura super automatic?
Dave K on Apr 3, 2015
Best Answer: No. This is backflushing detergent which is meant for SEMIautomatic machines. You should be able to remove the spouts on your Jura superauto to clean them and you can even clean them with a pipe cleaner if needed. Superautomatic machines do not require backflushing.

Hi I live in the UK and have a Fracino machine built in Birmingham. The product they sell for back flushing contains Sodium Hydroxide and I am a little concerned about using this. I have watched several videos of Seattle Coffee Gear on Youtube and they mention this product and wondered if you had any advice re the stuff I am using?

Thanks

Lindsey

Best Answer: I am sorry but I'm not able to speak about the product that you are using to back flush, however Joe Glo and other similar cleaning agents contain some combination of sodium tripolyphosphate and sodium per carbonate. Sorry I can't be of greater assistance on this for you!

Could I use this to clean a boiler that has had water sitting in it for 2 years and puts out stinky steam?
A shopper on Nov 10, 2013
Best Answer: This Joe Glo is a back flush agent, and so if you are looking for a product to run through the machine's steam/hot water arm, I'd recommend a descaler. Check out Dezcal, found at the link below:

http://www.seattlecoffeegear.com/dezcal-espresso-machine-descaler

Dezcal is your best bet, but I am not sure how much help it can provide if the water has been in there for 2 years. You may have success with a few applications of Dezcal. Good luck, and I hope it works for you!

Besides keeping your espresso machine clean, it will make your thermos look like new inside. After brewing my morning coffee I always transfer it to my thermos. After six months the interior was coated with oils from the coffee even though I thoroughly rinsed it after use. I used a 1/4 tsp and added a cup of some hot tap water. I put the cap on the thermos and gave it a good shake to dissolve the Joe Glo. I let the solution sit for five minutes, gave it another good shake and then poured it out. I couldn't believe the crud that came out. Repeated this procedure again and then gave the thermos a thorough rinse. The interior came out looking like new. So even if you don't have an espresso machine this is fantastic for cleaning your coffee thermos. (Posted on 1/5/2015)

Works as advertised and does well. My only suggestion is, after the first pull, mix the hot water and detergent left in the basket so that it more easily goes through the machine. Otherwise you might be left with undissolved, unused detergent in the basket. (Posted on 6/3/2013)

I waited too long to get the right tools to keep my machine clean. Joe Glo, a brush and a blind basket. So cheap, and the results are spectacular. Joe Glo doesn't do a great job at descaling - could be how long I waited to descale my machine. But with regular use from day one, I bet it would help keep scale to a minimum. Get a brush that has a measuring spoon for Joe Glo on the end, and the blind 58mm basket fits on the lid of the Joe Glo (it doesn't get lost in my drawer!). Regular backflushing is easy and you can taste the results right away.

Pros:
Easy To Use, Commercial Grade, Great Taste

Cons:
Doesn't descale (Posted on 3/2/2012)

I bought this product to back flush my Rancilio Silvia and it does a great job. I have been trying to find a product to clean my stainless steel coffee travel mug. I tried this product and within a few minutes I rinsed it out and all the stains were gone and for the first time it looks like new. No scrubbing, just add 1 1/2 teaspoon Joe Glo to your 16 oz mug with some hot water. Wait a few minutes and rinse. Wow, was I surprised!

This is a great product and I highly recommend.

Pros:
Cleans in minutes, Fast acting, Cleans like new

I had my espresso machine for over a year of use and never cleaned it. I didn't realize how much of an effect all that gunk and oil in there can make. Immediately after using this stuff the espresso turned out much much better than before and the machine produced a perfect 'puck' of grounds rather than the soupy grounds I used to have. I have been using it every month or two since.

Pros:
Easy To Use, Commercial Grade

Cons:
