Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of boiler does the Diletta Mio have?

The Mio pairs a PID-controlled 0.4L brew boiler with a separate 1000W steam thermoblock. You get stable brew temperature and quick heat-up for espresso, plus on-demand steam for the occasional latte or cappuccino.

How long does the Diletta Mio take to heat up?

About 6 minutes. That's much faster than heat exchanger or dual boiler machines, which typically need 13–22 minutes.

Does the Diletta Mio use a water tank or can it be plumbed?

The Mio runs from a 2L internal water tank and can't be connected to a direct water line.

Who is the Diletta Mio best for?

The Mio is ideal if you mostly drink espresso or Americanos and make the occasional milk drink. It has a PID, shot timer, brew pressure gauge and adjustable OPV without complicated programming. If you make several lattes a day, a heat exchanger like the Bello+ steams more continuously.

What does the Diletta Mio warranty cover?

The Mio has a 2-year Seattle Coffee Gear warranty covering parts and labor for mechanical and electrical defects. We cover return shipping in the continental US; you ship the machine to our repair center after we troubleshoot by phone and issue a repair authorization.

What colors does the Diletta Mio come in?

Stainless steel, black or white. Each Mio is built by hand in Milan, Italy.

Pulls a solid shot, but the quality is a little suspect...

When I opened the box, one of the buttons used to adjust the temperature was lying at the bottom of the box. I'd read about this in a few reviews, so I knew what the small metal piece was for. I never ended up adjusting the temp, so it didn't matter. It makes a good espresso, heats up in about 20 minutes, and while I think the steam wand works best when the temp indicates it's at 211-213 degrees, it doesn't always reach this temp after pulling a shot. It has little clearance under the brew head, so you will need to use an espresso shot glass or find a low-profile mug. I had enough room to place an Acaia Pearl scale under the cup to make sure I pulled just the right amount. I want more clearance, so I probably wouldn't look at this unit again.I've had this machine for 9 months, and a couple of weeks ago, it stopped powering on. It's impractical to pack and ship for repair, so I'm just going to write this off as a lesson learned about not purchasing heavy small appliances like this locally. (I want to be able to carry it out and walk it in if it needs service, but I'll be back at SCG for all the accessories.)

Beautiful, Highly Functional Machine - A beginner's take

Hello, thought I'd take some time to do a review of my Diletta Mio. After doing years of pour-over, this is my first espresso machine, and my first machine review! Overall, the Diletta Mio is an incredible machine for a first espresso machine. I've been using it for about thre weeks paired with a Eureka Mignon Zero, making 2-3 drinks a day. Pros:- Aesthetics and Form Factor: - It's beautiful and very functional! I personally love the understated matte case machine with pops of Chrome, and the proportions say 'espresso machine' to me. Personally, I think it's one of the most beautiful machines out there. - It has a large and functional cup warming area, benefiting from the boiler right below it, and the rails allow me to stack my gear safely. The side loading is what allows this huge area. - The side-loading water tank has proven hugely convenient to me too. All of this works great in a small kitchen. - It has a huge drip tray that's easy to remove and clean. - Fast, Consistent Heating: I haven't timed it, but it heats up very fast, and with the boiler right above the brew group, the group and portafilter warms up quickly.- Shot Pulling: This machine does not have a lot of adjustments, so for a newbie it's allowed me to focus on grind, dose, puck prep and temperature. I've gotten a few great shots from it - so any limitations are from my ability. It does have an OPV valve but I haven't adjusted it. Shows 9-10 when I get my shot correct. It seems to have a gradual draw-up pressure time. I've been wondering if I get a little preinfusion in that fashion, but not sure.- Decent Steaming: While not a slam dunk, the thermo-block powered steamer seems easy enough to use for a beginner. One key tip is to do one quick purge to remove the water before steaming, but then it's good to go. I've been only steaming small (4 oz) milk drinks (my pref) and the single-hole nozzle heats it quickly and with control. When I tried the double-hole nozzle it was honestly way too fast and out of control for such a small amount of milk. Probably good for lattes.- Decent Included Accessories: The included portafilter and have a nice weight and feel to them. They were considerably heavier than those included with a Profitec Go.Cons: - No Steam Control Knob: Steam is controlled via an on/off button and doesn't have the traditional knob to control it. I'm guessing this is a trade-off with a thermoblock, unless extra electronics are added. Needed? Maybe not but would improve the user experience.- Advanced Shot Controls: While far beyond my beginner needs, I'd have happily paid an extra $100 for some kind of flow control and/or pre-infusion. I imagine it's possible to dimmer-mod the machine at least, but I'm not ready to drill a hole into that beautiful case yet. Also, I'd prefer to follow the lead of others in the community, which brings to ?- Small User Community: The Mio is a Seattle Coffee Gear specific variant of Quick Mill Silvana Evo. There's few owners of this machine out there, and I think some early quality control issues made others hesitate. I did join a Silvana Evo Facebook group, but that's also pretty small. I also created a Mio specific Facebook group if anyone wants to join! Semi-related - SCG really needs to improve their online marketing. After months of research, I had no idea SCG had a Bay Area location. Buying the machine in person sealed the deal for me! - Weak User Manual: The Mio has a practically non-existent user manual. The Profitec Go manual I saw was thorough on usage, cleaning schedule, and had a complete parts breakdown included. I found some of this looking at Silvana Evo manuals, but come on SCG - work on the manual!

My favorite part of my mornings

I really love this machine. I upgraded from a GE appliance espresso machine that was gifted to me last year and ran into many problems with it. I returned it, took my refund and put it towards this machine instead. It's minimal and easy to use, it's the right price, and is leaps and bounds better than what I'm used to. Personally, I am impressed with the steam wand. I like the length and the speed, and my milk texture is so much better than what I'm used to. The machine looks great on my countertop, feels expensive, and I get so excited to wake up in the morning to use it.

Dilletta Mio... Excellent Machine!

I recently purchased the Dilletta Mio from Seattle Coffee Gear after months of comparison research. The Dilletta Mio is an absolutely awesome machine! The quality, workmanship, features and build of this machine are superb! The design and sleekness will merge into any kitchen or coffee corner seamlessly... it's a beautiful piece of equipment. SCG knocked it out of the park with their input in designing such a quality machine at a very reasonable price point for what you're getting. If you are considering this machine, don't second guess your decision, definitely buy it as you won't be disappointed. I would certainly recommend and buy again.

Great home espresso machine.

I've been using this machine for about a month now, and after a couple of days of adjusting from my Gaggia Classic Pro, I was able to get very consistent espresso and milk with this machine. I can't say that the espresso tastes any better than my modded Gaggia, but the ease of use and consistency make this a much more enjoyable experience. I also waste almost no water compared to the GCP. For steaming, I have loved the experience with this machine. It's so easy. I keep my steaming element off unless I need it. It heats up in 3 minutes to produce very consistent steaming power. Nothing that will blow you away, but I've found it very easy to produce consistent latte art quality milk. If you try to steam more than 1 drink's worth at a time this machine would struggle. Not a problem for me since making drinks back to back is a very quick process.

Awesome once dialed in

Super happy with the Diletta Mio. As a relative newcomber to pulling espresso, it took some trial and error to get it dialed in, but once I upgraded my grinder (went with the Baratza Vario+, setting at 2F), the Diletta Mio is consistently producing delicious double shots of espresso over a duration of 20-30s between 8-10 bars of pressure. The milk foamer takes a little longer than average given the engineering of the machine, but end-to-end -from grind to sip - a cappuccino only takes a 3-5 minutes to make once the machine is warmed up. If my budget was $6k for an espresso machine, honestly I would have gone with the La Marzocco Mini, but the Diletta Mio was an amazing alternative option (nice work SCG on the v1!) that also makes great espresso while still looking classy in a kitchen. The design definitely beats all those mass-produced, brushed-steel commodity machines.

Great alternative to Rancilio

It has great craftsmanship, mine is beautiful and mirror finish. Cleans easily with a microfiber towel. The spouts are not crooked, it's just the gasket for the portafilter is tight when it's new, like every espresso machine. Once it's used the handle can rotate far enough to have the spouts straight. Fast warm up, two boilers, easy reservoir, nice steam wand. It's been pumping out great coffe drinks for the last four months no issues.

Minimalist yet delivers excellent coffee

After being burned (literally) by De'Longhi, I finally broke down and bought a quality espresso machine. Initially I wasn't comfortable spending $1,300 to feed my caffeine addiction, but I'm truly glad I did. This thing is fantastic! Brew quality is great, and build quality is even better. It's compact enough to fit in my space-constrained environment, yet delivers like the full-sized espresso machine my neighbor has been bragging about for years (he's got an awesome setup, but also three times the kitchen space to put it in so that wasn't an option for me). The designer's attention to detail is evident throughout this unit, with an elegant simplicity sort of aesthetic that's even better in person than it is in the images. It's easy to use, delivers very consistent quality brew, and the the dual pumps and heating elements make brewing multiple drinks efficient and effective, with minimal reheat time. I'm really glad I got it.

Questionable craftsmanship

I was looking at this vs. the Rancillio Silvia PID. I bought this after chatting with sales staff mostly because of color, as I am very tired of brushed stainless steel appliances, and the Silvia PID in black is out of stock. We also talked about the PID in the Silvia and other features of the Mio. Adding water to the Mio's reservoir was going to be much more convenient for me than the Silvia because of the location of my coffee station.I received the Mio, but had to return it because it was leaking from the top of the unit at the corner closest to the steam wand. It was also the case that the spouts were not straight on the portafilter. Given that the portafilter doesn't come close to straight out of the machine when inserted, the combination of the two leave the spouts at such an angle that it's difficult to get cups under the spouts. I haven't owned many espresso machines personally, but I've looked at a lot of pictures online of machines and portafilters and have not seen this problem to this extreme anywhere else.I got the return replacement machine. The second machine had a crooked cup rack, and the portafilter had the same angle issue as the original unit. I have requested a refund.Diletta Mio Pros: styling, PID, separate thermoblock for steam, power switch for thermoblock to save electricity if not steaming.Diletta Mio Cons: questionable craftsmanship. If the portafilter spout angles are the intended design and not a craftsmanship issue, the design was going to bug me constantly.

Mostly great, with a couple of quibbles.

Mostly great, with a couple of quibbles. First, the drip tray cover tends to rattle during brewing. A little felt tape somewhere should quiet it down, but it makes it seem cheaper than it is. Second, you have to bend down to see the pressure gauge clearly. Lastly, the clearance with the stock portafilter is unusably small, they should just ship this with a bottomless portafilter. I just leave the blank disk in the stock one and only use it for flushing.Otherwise, it is making great espresso and seems generally well made.

Incredible value and is a perfect home barista machine.

10 years in the hobby. Past machines were Gaggia Pro and Rancilla Silvia. I waited a month to write this review as I wanted to make sure I had enough time to figure out both quirks and what I liked. For starters I feel like this is the best value by far at this price point. It is so much better looking in my kitchen, then past machines. It's right underneath the counter has the perfect amount of room under the porter filter , fits a wide range of glasses and cups sizes. The warming tray on top is perfectly sized. It fits three rows of my favorite latte cups and espresso glasses. The performance has been spot on shot consistency , shot timing. I was able to dial in the perfect shot in under 15 minutes. The PID has been the real surprise as it holds within a degree or two. Moving from shot to steaming is almost immediate and steaming power is more than I've ever had and honestly as much as I need. Steamer wand stays cold to touch easy to clean. The machine overall feels and looks very high-quality. Even the drip tray is beefy very surprising at this price point.. hope this helps. Full disclosure. I almost returned it when I first received because I felt like I should've went for a more expensive machine. Customer service was awesome and after another day of use, I knew this was the machine for me. What clinched the decision was size speed to temp 6-7 minutes and the side entry water is so convenient when under a kitchen cabinet. 3 to 4 weeks 2 to 6 lattes a day it hasn't skipped to beat and I'm making my best drinks I've ever made. I did add the bottomless port filter with walnut handle and now it feels perfect. I forgot to mention having the pressure gauge is something that I really like and didn't know what I was missing until now that I have it. There's no fancy programming other than setting your PID temp but for me not needed.

Diletta Mio is the best machine for home use

This is the second day of having my quick mill Diletta Mio from Seattle coffee gear. I adjusted the pressure to around 9 bar with some adjustment of my grinder. It took me no time to extract a great espresso naked and cappuccino shots. SCG support team were helpful in how to adjust the pressure and how to drain the boiler when the machine not in use for long time or for transport. I owned once an expensive quick mill HX machine and had a bad experience with it. I then got a Gaggia classic pro and with a lot of tinkering been able to get decent shots. I was influenced by a video of James Hoffman for showing how the Mio is really a super Gaggia. The quick mill Silvano is similar but I decided to get the Mio due to no burn stream wand, no wet stained bottom glass and the proximity of SCG to my location. I stored my Gaggia. I don't need tinkering anymore. I am really impressed with this machine hopefully will last for years.

Quality control issues

Two out of two machines arrived damaged. When I inspected the first machine it was damaged so I exchanged it for another machine. The second machine also was damaged and I canceled the purchase. Seems there is a serious quality control issue. Kudos to the SCG staff for promptly handling the issues.

This machine is of the absolute best quality and the customer service is above any other I have experienced. Katie and Edgar can lead you through any problems you may come into. Have me careful too do regular maintenance on the brew head and the steam wad, which seems to pick up some milk residuals.

Gasket quality?

I've had this machine since Christmas and my coffee experience is fairly extensive. I've had some really great shots of espresso but for about the past three months I've had some spewing out of the portafiliter when I'm pulling a shot. Obviously this is a common issue when the gasket is old but should it be old this soon? I have maybe pulled 40ish shots?

Love my new Diletta Mio

I purchased my Diletta Mio from Seattle Coffee Gear after one of the very kind employees demonstrated the machine. It has not disappointed! It was a replacement for my >15 year old Silvia Rancilio. It has taken very little effort to perfect my shots. I love that the steamer has its own thermal block so there is no waiting to steam my milk after pulling shots. It is slightly larger than the Rancilio but basic same footprint on my counter.
