Saeco's plumbable espresso machine is powerful enough to satisfy an office full of coffee or espresso lovers and easy enough (one-touch brewing functionality) for anyone to whip up tasty beverages. Use the Royal Coffee Bar with its built-in water tank or plumb it directly to a water source. With an easy-to-read, back-lit digital display that guides you completely through the espresso- and coffee-making process, you'll have unprecedented control over the machine. What's more, with the Royal Coffee Bar you're free to adjust the quantity and temperature of coffee and water for each cup.

Features & Functionality of the Saeco Royal Coffee Bar

  • Professional Quality Coffee Grinder: The Royal Professional Coffee Bar has a built-in, conical burr grinder, the same type used by the professionals.
  • Large Water Tank and Plumbable: The Royal Professional Coffee Bar's draw from its built in tank or be plumbed directly to a water source. When the water runs low, the digital display will remind you when to refill it.
  • Multi-Functional Digital Screen: With a quick glance at the digital screen, you'll see all the functions and options. Do you want to brew one cup or two? Is your machine in the automatic rinsing or cleaning cycle? Is it grinding or brewing? It's all on the readout display.
  • Hot Water Dispenser and Rapid Steam Technology: Turn the steam knob and have instant steam you want for cappuccinos or lattes. If you need instant hot water for making tea, hot cocoa, or Americanos, the hot water feature is available at the press of a button.
  • Three Preset Buttons For Different Sized Cups: Press a button for a single or double shot of espresso. You can brew a small, medium, or large cup of coffee and vary the strength to your taste.
  • Bi-pass Doser: This option allows you to pour pre-ground coffee into a funnel that is accessed by lifting a small lid on top of the machine. This feature is perfect when there is someone in the group who wants a decaffeinated espresso, or if you wish to sample other blends of coffee.
  • Coffee Strength Function: The Royal Coffee Bar has a feature that will allow you to adjust the amount of coffee to be ground for each individual cup. Adjust it from six to nine grams.
Pros
  • Capacity - With an oversized water reservoir, you are less likely to run out of water at the wrong moment.
  • Powerful - The boiler and pump are ample for home and office use.
Cons
  • No Oily Beans - We've seen a lot of these come in for repair all gunked up with oily beans. Stick to the medium roasts to extend this machine's life span.
  • Large Footprint - This unit takes up more real estate than you typical home machine.

How do I descale this machine when it it plumbed? And given that the water I use is distilled do I still need to descale it?
Sara K on Mar 8, 2015
Best Answer: We do not recommend using completely distilled water, as over time, it will degrade the boiler. Water just wants to have minerals in it, so as water sits in the boiler, it will draw minerals from the boiler, breaking it down over the years. If you're using distilled water, we recommend using a mixture of tap and distilled, to add some minerals in so that it doesn't damage the boiler over time.

Considering you should be adding some minerals into the mix, you will still need to descale the machine. If you're using a mixture that essentially leaves the overall mix very soft, then every 3 months is appropriate. To descale, you will just switch your machine to the tank option, instead of being plumbed in, then run your descaling cycle, with your descaling solution being mixed into your water tank.

Where is the Dreg Drawer? It gives a message Dreg Drawer is full.
A shopper on Mar 5, 2015
Best Answer: It is in the front of the machine. You will need to remove the drip tray, then pull the dump box out on the right front corner. After you have emptied it, reassemble and you should be good to go!

how do you program for plumbing when it was used for water capacity via the tank?
denise r on Dec 1, 2014
Best Answer: To switch from the water tank to the plumbed connection, you will need to make sure that your water line is connected and turned on to the machine. Next, go into the menu settings to find the direct connect/water tank option and set it to the direct connect setting. It may request to ventilate, meaning pull water through the hot water outlet, but otherwise should be fine!

Hi there,

I am having issues with this coffee machine. It says ventilate and when we ventilate it goes back to select coffee amount screen. When we pick any of the coffee amount it grinds, pre-brews and nothing no coffee comes out. When we check the bin there is the coffee powder in the drawer?

Please help us out, not sure what to do here!
A shopper on Sep 2, 2014
Best Answer: It sounds like you may need to make a grind adjustment if your Royal Coffee Bar is having trouble compacting the grounds or putting water through them. I would suggest brewing with the bypass feature without adding ground coffee in order to see if you can get water from the brew spouts. If water goes through the brew unit well without coffee and dispenses via the dispensing spouts when you brew with the bypass, then you may need to adjust your grind setting. If the dumped grounds are slightly damp and the machine asks you to ventilate after each brew cycle, then typically this means you have too fine of a grind setting and should adjust your grind 1-2 notches coarser. On the other hand, if the grounds are completely dry and loose, then the grind is a bit too coarse and you should adjust your grind setting slightly finer. Every time you make a grind adjustment you will need to brew 3-4 cups in order to have the new grind setting in full effect. Hopefully this solves it for you!

which saeco machines have a double boiler ?
sal e on Jan 20, 2012
Best Answer: None; some models have a boiler and a thermoblock (for RapidSteam) but none of them have dual pumps, so you will need to perform steaming & brewing separately. Any Saeco model that references Rapid Steam will have the boiler/thermoblock setup.

Purchased this unit about 4 years ago for my research group. We use Lavazza Gold. We hit our 20,000th shot today. No problems with this machine. Provide a very consistent shot year in and year out. (Posted on 10/2/2012)

We were given this machine as a gift about 7 years ago. It has worked great for most of that time.
We use Traders Joe"s French Roast beans most of the time...dark and lots of flavor. The coffee is perfect. We set it for a med-fine grind and always use the medium cup setting....perfect, rich, crema, and beats anything Starsucks makes!
The machine did have a leaky boiler (at year 4). I ordered a replacement and it took about 1 hour to install...and works as good as new.
I wish I practiced frothing more...sometimes great, others just arm milk!
Overall, I love it and am thinking of getting one for our conference room at work.
