Description

Ethiopia is one of coffee’s most celebrated origins on the planet. This is due in large part to it being considered the birthplace of our favorite bean by many. Abyssinian is Upper Left’s celebration of Ethiopian coffee, sourced from a number of lots found around the region. The current blend of washed and natural processed beans offers notes of cherry candy, strawberry, and blood orange. We love these sweet and syrupy flavors, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy this roast as a pour over or even espresso.

Recommended Brew Methods

We recommend a 16:1 water to coffee ratio for your dosing. Use a scale for best results! For pour over, use a medium-coarse grind size somewhere between drip and press levels. Start with a short pour to wet the grounds and “bloom” the coffee for 30 seconds, followed by two more pours, divided in half to reach the appropriate remaining ratio of water to coffee.

Start with a 16:1 water-to-coffee ratio for your dosing. You’ll want a medium grind size for drip brewing that’s finer than what you’d use for pourover. Make sure you give the filter basket a shake to evenly distribute the grounds in the filter for best results. Turn on your brewer and it’ll do the rest!

For a French Press brew we recommend a 1:12 coffee to water ratio with coffee ground at the consistency of sea salt. Add your grounds to the brewing chamber. then add twice the water as there are grounds to the chamber. Stir gently and allow to bloom for about 30 seconds. Place the top on the press and allow it to steep for 4 minutes. Plunge the press slowly and enjoy!

Cold brew, a summer staple but delicious year round! Whether you enjoy a simple immersion cold brew or a drip cold brew, this lower-acid coffee beverage is very versatile. A coarse ground coffee, water, your favorite cold brewer, and time is about all you need! The result is ready to drink cold brew, or cold brew concentrate that can be diluted with water, depending on the ratio of water to coffee used. This method really highlights nutty and chocolate notes, and larger batches mean you can make a few days of coffee in one go!
