Espresso Snowcone: The Summer Treat Every Coffee Shop Should Have

Our Espresso Snowcone recipe stacks bold espresso between layers of shaved ice and frozen lemonade, then finishes with a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk. It's part dessert, part coffee break, and entirely worth making on a hot afternoon.

Why We Love This Recipe

This one's all about contrast: cold, fluffy shaved ice against a warm-brewed espresso shot that melts its way through every bite. The frozen lemonade layer adds a bright, tangy twist you won't find in a typical snow cone, and the sweetened condensed milk drizzle ties the whole thing together with a little extra sweetness.

What You'll Need

  • 2 oz espresso shot
  • Shaved ice (plain)
  • Shaved ice (frozen lemonade)
  • Sweetened condensed milk, for drizzling

How to Make It

  1. Brew and cool your espresso. Pull a 2 oz espresso shot and set it aside to cool while you prep the ice.
  2. Shave your plain ice. Make shaved ice using a shaved ice maker, or blend crushed ice until fluffy.
  3. Pack the base layer. Add the shaved ice to your glass and compact it down firmly with a spoon.
  4. Pour and pack again. Add the cooled espresso over the ice, then pack it down a second time so it soaks in evenly.
  5. Shave your frozen lemonade. Freeze lemonade in a shaved ice maker mold, or freeze it into cubes first if you're blending. Shave it into fluffy ice just like the plain batch.
  6. Dome it off. Top the espresso-soaked ice with the frozen lemonade shaved ice, mounding it into a dome shape.
  7. Drizzle and dig in. Finish with a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk over the top and enjoy right away.

Pro Tips

  • Get the fluffiest shave. A dedicated shaved ice maker gives you that light, powdery texture that's hard to replicate with a blender.
  • Cool your espresso faster. Pull your shot right before you start prepping ice so it has time to cool naturally, or pop it in the fridge for a few minutes if you're in a rush.
  • Freeze lemonade in advance. Prep your frozen lemonade the night before so it's ready to shave whenever the craving hits.

What Does It Taste Like?

The first bite is all cold, fluffy ice with a hit of bold espresso underneath. As it melts, the espresso and lemonade start to blend, giving you this sweet-tart, coffee-forward flavor that's completely different from a regular snow cone. The sweetened condensed milk drizzle adds a rich, creamy finish that rounds out the tang from the lemonade. It's refreshing, a little indulgent, and dangerously easy to eat too fast.

Your Turn

This one's begging for your own twist, whether that's a different frozen juice layer or a splash of flavored syrup in the espresso. What would you add to your Espresso Snowcone?
