What's In The Box
DeLonghi La Specialista Maestro (EC9885M) espresso machine, 58mm stainless steel portafilter, Single-wall filter baskets (1 cup, 2 cup, & pre-ground), Dual-wall filter baskets (1 cup & 2 cup), Water filter holder with DeLonghi DLSC002 water filter, Stainless steel milk jug, Power cord.

Setup & First Use

Before first use, remove all packaging. Install the DLSC002 water filter: soak for 1 minute, rinse, and seat in the 2.5L water tank. Fill with cold, fresh water. Wash the portafilter, baskets, and milk jug with warm water and mild soap.

The La Specialista Maestro is DeLonghi's top semi-automatic home machine. It features an AI-powered Grind Suggestion System that analyzes the shot and recommends grind adjustments through the display. The Smart Tamping Station integrates dosing and tamping automatically. Dual dedicated boilers — one for espresso, one for steam — allow simultaneous extraction and milk texturing.

Plug in and power on. Follow the display prompts through initial setup: language, water hardness, and a rinse cycle. Run a blank flush through the group head before first use with coffee.

Load fresh beans into the hopper. Set initial grind size to the middle of the range. The AI Grind Suggestion will prompt adjustments after analyzing your first shots.

Tutorials & Training

AI Grind Suggestion

After each shot, the Maestro displays a grind adjustment recommendation based on extraction analysis. Accept the suggestion by pressing the confirm button — the machine adjusts the grinder one step in the recommended direction. This feature is most useful when learning a new bean or roast level. Over 3–5 shots, the system converges on an optimal grind setting for your current coffee.

Smart Tamping Station

Insert the 58mm portafilter into the cradle. Press the dose button — the sensor grinding system measures the dose by weight and the tamp station applies consistent tamping pressure. Remove the portafilter and lock into the group head immediately after tamping.

Active Temperature Control — 5 Levels

Adjust brew temperature from the display (1–5 scale). Level 2–3 for light roasts; level 3 for medium; level 4–5 for dark roasts. Allow a brief heat stabilization period after adjusting before pulling the next shot.

Simultaneous Brew and Steam

With dual dedicated boilers, begin steaming milk during or immediately after espresso extraction without waiting for temperature transition. This makes the workflow for cappuccinos and lattes significantly faster than single-boiler machines.

Auto Steam Wand

The Maestro's auto steam wand textures milk automatically. Fill the stainless jug with cold milk, submerge the wand, and activate steaming — the wand heats and textures to your selected milk texture level and temperature. Manual override is available for experienced users who prefer full control.

Cold Brew / Cold Coffee

Select cold extraction mode for beverages over ice. The machine extracts at lower temperature to produce a smooth, low-acid result specifically designed for iced drinks.

Cleaning & Maintenance

After Each Shot

Rinse the portafilter, wipe the group head, purge and wipe the steam wand immediately.

Weekly — Cleaning Cycle

Run the cleaning cycle when prompted — insert a DeLonghi cleaning tablet in the portafilter with the blind disc and follow the display.

Grinder

Run grinder cleaning tablets periodically to clear oil buildup. Follow with beans before brewing.

Water Filter and Descaling

Replace the DLSC002 filter every 2–3 months. Descale when prompted using DeLonghi EcoDecalk. Follow the on-machine procedure completely without interruption.

Troubleshooting

AI Grind Suggestion Not Appearing

Ensure the Grind Suggestion feature is enabled in Settings. The system requires a complete shot to analyze — very fast or very slow shots that don't reach full flow may not trigger a suggestion.

No Coffee Flow

Grind is too fine or portafilter not locked. Try adjusting coarser by 2 steps if flow has stopped completely.

Inconsistent Dosing from Smart Tamping Station

The sensor weighs the dose for each shot. If dosing is inconsistent, check that the hopper is adequately filled — near-empty hoppers cause inconsistent feed. Clean the grinding chamber with a grinder cleaning tablet.
