What's In The Box
LELIT Kate espresso machine with integrated grinder, 58mm double portafilter (with handle), Single portafilter basket, Double portafilter basket, Backflushing (blind) basket, Tamper, Coffee scoop, Water softener filter, Group cleaning brush, Cup riser, Instruction manual, Power cord. Note: Kate uses 58mm group and includes LCC (Lelit Control Center) for programmable preinfusion and timed dosing.

Setup & First Use

Place the Kate on a level surface. Fill the water tank with cold filtered water and install the water softener filter. Allow 15–20 minutes warmup before first use.

The Kate is a Victoria espresso machine with an integrated 38mm conical burr grinder and LCC (Lelit Control Center) system. The 58mm group head is standard-sized, meaning a wide range of aftermarket accessories and tampers are available. The Kate includes LCC-programmable preinfusion and two programmable timed dose settings (single and double).

Grind adjustment: rotate the stepless collar while the grinder is running. Program dose times via the LCC: press the dose button, grind until satisfied, and press again to save. The saved time repeats on subsequent doses.

Tutorials & Training

LCC — Lelit Control Center

The LCC provides: (1) PID temperature display and adjustment, (2) programmable preinfusion time, (3) timed dose programming for grinder, (4) shot timer. Access LCC settings by holding the brew or steam buttons during startup — refer to the manual for the full LCC navigation menu.

Preinfusion

LCC-controlled preinfusion saturates the puck with low-pressure water before full extraction pressure is applied. This reduces channeling and produces more even extractions, especially for lighter roasts. Start with a 3–5 second preinfusion time and adjust based on puck quality and extraction evenness.

Integrated Grinder Workflow

Load beans into the hopper. Set stepless grind fineness while running. The Kate has a portafilter-actuated dosing button: press once for the programmed single dose, twice for double, or press-and-hold for continuous manual grinding. Dose directly into the portafilter.

3-Way Solenoid

After brewing, the 3-way solenoid vents remaining pressure from the group, keeping the puck dryer and making portafilter removal cleaner. This also enables backflushing for group head cleaning — run the LCC cleaning program with the blind basket and a cleaning tablet.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Daily Cleaning

After each session, purge the steam wand briefly and wipe it down. Remove the portafilter, knock out the puck, and rinse the basket under warm water. Wipe the group head area and drip tray.

Weekly Backflushing

Backflush the Kate's group head using the backflushing (blind) basket and espresso machine cleaner such as Cafiza or Puly Caff. Run 5–6 cycles of 10 seconds on / 10 seconds off. Follow with 5–6 plain water rinse cycles. The 3-way solenoid makes the Kate easy to backflush cleanly.

Ongoing Maintenance

Use soft, filtered water in the reservoir to minimize mineral buildup. Replace the water softener filter per the recommended schedule in your LELIT user manual. Have a qualified technician inspect internal components annually if you use the machine daily.

Troubleshooting

Shots Running Too Fast

Grind finer. Increase dose slightly. If you're new to the machine, allow 20+ minutes warmup time — a cold boiler causes inconsistent extraction temperatures that appear as fast shots.

Shots Running Too Slow / No Flow

Grind coarser. Dose may be too high — reduce by 0.5–1g. Check for scale buildup in the group head shower screen.

Steam Pressure Weak

Allow full warmup time for the steam boiler (10–20 minutes). Check the steam wand tip for blockage — clear with a pin if clogged. On single-boiler machines, switch to steam mode and wait for the boiler to reach steam temperature (typically 5–10 minutes after espresso brewing).

LCC Not Responding

Power cycle the machine. If the LCC display is unresponsive after restart, check all connections and consult the instruction manual for LCC reset procedures.
