LELIT William Espresso Grinder

LELIT William Espresso Grinder

Step up your espresso workflow with the LELIT William Espresso Grinder. The William offers 64mm flat burrs, portafilter actuated dosing, and programmable dosing for repeatable grinds every time. Equipped with a pared down version of the LELIT LCC (LELIT control center), the William stores two timed doses and keeps track of your use over time with built-in shot counters. Operation is remarkably easy, simply tap the portafilter plate once for a single dose or twice for your double dose. Even better, a manual dose button lets you top up or purge coffee on demand. Built to match LELIT's line of espresso machines, the William makes an excellent pair with the Mara X or Elizabeth models.

What's In The Box
LELIT William espresso grinder (PL72), Portafilter holder fork/hook (adjustable height), Magnetic catch bin (for ground coffee), Cleaning brush, Power cord.

Setup & First Use

Place the William on a level surface beside your espresso machine. Load whole beans into the top-loading hopper. Adjust the portafilter hook height so your portafilter's basket rim is centered under the grind outlet — loosen the set screw, adjust, and retighten.

Adjust grind fineness via the stepless micrometric collar on the top of the machine — rotate clockwise for finer, counterclockwise for coarser. Always adjust while the grinder is running to prevent jamming. Start at the middle of the espresso range and dial in based on extraction time.

Program single and double dose times via the LCC: press the single-dose button once and grind until satisfied, then press again to save. The machine stores both dose times and a shot counter in its memory. To grind: tap once for single dose, twice for double, or press-and-hold for continuous manual grinding.

Tutorials & Training

Portafilter-Actuated Dosing

Insert your portafilter into the adjustable hook at the bottom of the grinder. The grind outlet is positioned directly over the basket. Tap once for single dose or twice for double — the William delivers ground coffee directly into the portafilter, minimizing mess. The magnetic catch bin can also be used in place of the portafilter for flexible dosing.

Stepless Micrometric Adjustment

The William's collar has marked notches for reference but is continuously stepless between them — small movements produce small grind changes. For espresso, you typically move in very small increments. A half-step change is enough to shift extraction by 3–5 seconds. Mark your optimal setting with a piece of tape or note the dial position.

LCC and Shot Counter

The LCC OLED display shows current settings, shot counter, and dose times. Access settings by holding the program button. The shot counter tracks total shots for maintenance scheduling and burr replacement planning — 64mm flat burrs typically last 200–300kg of coffee before replacement.

Pairing Recommendation

The William is designed to pair with the Mara X and Elizabeth, though it works with any 58mm machine. The adjustable fork accommodates most standard, bottomless, and double-spout portafilters.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Weekly

Brush the portafilter plate and grind outlet with the included cleaning brush after each session. Wipe the exterior with a dry cloth.

Monthly — Burrs

Run grinder cleaning tablets (Grindz or equivalent) at medium setting. Follow with beans to purge residue before brewing. For deeper cleaning, remove the upper burr (refer to the LCC service menu or manual for access instructions) and brush both flat burr surfaces to remove coffee oil buildup. Do not use water on the burrs.

Troubleshooting

Grinder Jamming

Always adjust the grind collar while the grinder is running. If jammed, remove beans from the hopper, activate the grinder, and slowly turn the collar coarser. Do not force the collar.

Inconsistent Dose Weight

Check that the hopper is adequately filled — a near-empty hopper produces inconsistent feed. Reprogram the dose time if you have changed grind settings — finer grinding takes longer per gram.
