Rocket Espresso Appartamento TCA Espresso Machine

Rocket Espresso Appartamento TCA Espresso Machine

Refresh your your home bar with the Rocket Espresso Appartamento TCA Espresso Machine. A ground-up redesign of the fan-favorite Appartamento, the TCA adds a new...just about everything to its namesake. At its core, the TCA brings a hint of modernity with an integrated 4-setting temperature control system to improve cup quality. This special temperature adjustment is actuated with the brew lever, removing the need for any screens, buttons, or switches to detract from its show-stopping design. Also new to the TCA: an upgraded stainless steel frame, new case design, updated knobs and portafilter, and an integrated cup rail. These changes combine to make the Appartamento TCA a worthwhile addition to your coffee setup.

Setup & First Use

First Use

Fill the internal reservoir and run water through the system without coffee to flush. Allow 20–30 minutes for the machine to fully stabilize before pulling shots.

Temperature Control Adjustment (TCA)

The TCA is a 4-position temperature dial on the front panel — the Appartamento TCA's standout upgrade over the standard model. Each position shifts the HX circuit's brew temperature slightly. Start at position 2 or 3 for most espresso blends and adjust based on results.

Cooling Flush Protocol

As a heat exchanger machine, run a 2–3 second cooling flush through the group before each shot, especially after 10+ minutes of idle time. The TCA helps control the baseline temperature, but a cooling flush remains good practice.

Tutorials & Training

Using the TCA System

The 4 preset positions allow you to dial in a cooler or warmer baseline brew temperature without a full PID — position 1 is coolest, position 4 is hottest. Lighter roasts often benefit from higher positions; darker roasts typically perform better at lower positions. Experiment with your coffee and note which setting produces the best results.

Workflow Without a Shot Timer

The Appartamento TCA, like the standard Appartamento, has no built-in shot timer. Use a separate timer or espresso scale for consistent extraction. A 25–30 second shot time for a 1:2 ratio double shot is a reliable starting point.

Dual Pre-Infusion

Rocket's redesigned E61 group on the Appartamento includes a dual pre-infusion feature that gently saturates the puck before full pump pressure. This improves extraction evenness — no manual pre-infusion setup needed.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Daily Cleaning

After each session, purge the steam wand and wipe it down. Remove the portafilter, knock out the puck, and rinse the basket under warm water. Wipe the group head area with a damp cloth.

Weekly Backflushing

Use the blind basket and espresso machine cleaner (Cafiza or Puly Caff) for backflushing. Run 5–6 cycles of 10 seconds on / 10 seconds off. Follow with 5–6 plain water rinse cycles.

Water Reservoir

Rinse the reservoir weekly and refill with fresh, filtered water. Use soft water (75–150ppm) to minimize scale buildup in the boiler.

Troubleshooting

Shots Too Hot Despite Low TCA Position

Try a longer or more aggressive cooling flush before pulling. The HX circuit can still overshoot during low-traffic periods. If temperature is consistently off, adjust one TCA position lower.

Shots Too Cool or Weak Extraction

Move the TCA one position higher and test. Also verify the machine is fully warmed up — the Appartamento TCA needs 20–30 minutes to reach stable operating temperature.

Steam Pressure Low

Allow the steam boiler to recover. The machine's HX design requires a moment between consecutive milk drinks during high-demand sessions. Check that the steam knob is fully closed when not in use.
