Rocket Espresso Bicocca Espresso Machine

Rocket Espresso Bicocca Espresso Machine

The Rocket Espresso Bicocca Espresso Machine is designed to deliver consistent, high-quality espresso. A large-format espresso machine that doubles as a light commercial option for small spaces, the Bicocca's featureset is purpose-built for shot-to-shot repeatability. The Bicocca's dedicated brew boiler, steam boiler, and group heater are all individually PID-controlled, ensuring temperatures stay the same along the entire brew path. Similarly, shot programming offers timed pre-infusion and volumetric infusion steps, helping to keep your espresso the same from first pull to last. Both temperature and volume are controlled through the group-mounted touchscreen, which also gives access to auto-on scheduling, cleaning cycles, shot counters, and other settings. The Bicocca's production-focused design also means it comes ready-to-plumb and easy to service, with accessible hose connections, drains, and modular components.

Setup & First Use

Overview

The Rocket Espresso Bicocca is a dual-boiler machine designed for both advanced home baristas and NSF-rated small commercial applications. Its actively heated group head reaches thermostable temperatures in approximately 10 minutes — significantly faster than passive HX designs.

Initial Setup

The Bicocca can operate from its internal reservoir or be plumbed directly using the included plumb-in hose and waste hose. Connect to a 20-amp outlet — the Bicocca requires a 20-amp circuit.

3.5-Inch Touchscreen Interface

The touchscreen is mounted directly on top of the group head for intuitive access during brewing. Navigate the menu to set brew and steam temperatures, program volumetrics and pre-infusion, and customize the interface theme (orange, teal, or red).

Volumetric and Pre-Infusion Programming

Access the programming menu to set pre-infusion duration and shot volume. Pre-infusion at low pressure gently wets the puck before full extraction. Volumetric controls automate shot stopping at a set volume.

Fast Warm-Up

The actively heated group reaches stable brewing temperature in approximately 10 minutes. Unlike passive thermosiphon systems, the Bicocca's group heating system actively manages temperature for fast readiness and consistent extraction.

Tutorials & Training

Active Group Heating Advantage

Traditional HX machines maintain group temperature via passive thermosiphon circulation and require cooling flushes after idle periods. The Bicocca's active group heater maintains temperature directly — no cooling flush needed, faster heat-up, and more consistent temperature from the first shot.

Touchscreen Customization

The Bicocca's touchscreen allows you to configure button layouts, display themes, and quick-access settings. Personalize the interface for your workflow — for example, set your most-used pre-infusion and dose combination to the home screen.

NSF Small Commercial Use

The Bicocca's NSF rating makes it suitable for coffee carts, catering, and small commercial applications. Its dual boiler and active group heating provide the thermal stability needed for back-to-back drinks without the complexity of a full commercial machine.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Daily Cleaning

Backflush with the blind basket and espresso machine cleaner using the touchscreen's cleaning program. Wipe the steam wand, portafilters, and drip tray.

Touchscreen Care

Wipe the touchscreen with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid steam or moisture on the screen during cleaning.

Plumbing Care

If plumbed in, periodically inspect the inlet and waste hose connections for leaks. Flush the waste line as needed.

Troubleshooting

Group Not Reaching Temperature in 10 Minutes

Verify the machine is connected to a 20-amp circuit. Underpowered circuits can slow heat-up. If the group consistently fails to reach temperature, contact SCG service.

Touchscreen Unresponsive

Clean the screen surface. Perform a power cycle if the screen freezes. The Bicocca's touchscreen is the primary control interface — persistent issues require technician evaluation.

Shot Not Stopping at Programmed Volume

Re-program the volumetric setting. After any significant grind change, reprogram volumes to maintain accuracy.

Plumbing Leak

Check all hose connections for secure seating. Use thread tape on threaded fittings. Contact SCG if leaks persist after checking connections.
