Rocket Espresso Spluga Espresso Grinder

Rocket Espresso Spluga Espresso Grinder

Reach the peaks of home espresso with the Rocket Espresso Spluga Espresso Grinder. The Spluga offers immaculate grinds in a full-size footprint, perfect for pairing with Rocket Espresso Machines. A unique two-stage grind adjustment collar makes grind adjustments approachable: Adjust the knobs themselves for precision dialing-in, or unlock them and adjust the collar directly for big, fast grind changes. When you're in espresso range, you can set and save up to 3 doses, hide the options you don't use, or choose to grind continuously for more manual control. The Spluga powers through espresso grinds with its 65mm steel flat burrs and high grinding speed. Customizations abound with the Spluga's color touchscreen, which controls grind times and displayed dosing options, swaps operation types, offers selectable color theming, and shows snapshots for daily and total grinder usage.

Setup & First Use

Overview

The Spluga is Rocket's full-size premium home grinder, featuring 65mm flat burrs and a 3.5-inch HMI (Human Machine Interface) touchscreen — the same screen technology found on the Bicocca espresso machine. At 2.6–3.3 grams per second, it grinds a double shot in 5–7 seconds.

Grind Adjustment

The Spluga features a quick-release micrometric adjustment — an adjustment knob on both sides of the grinder allows grind size changes without fully removing the collar. Unlockable grind adjust knobs enable large adjustments at the collar or fine adjustments from either side.

Touchscreen Setup

Navigate the 3.5-inch touchscreen to program up to 3 timed dose presets. The touchscreen is fully customizable — change button colors and layout to match your preference.

Dosing Modes

Standard Mode: Select your dose preset on screen before placing the portafilter — the grinder waits for portafilter insertion to start. Play Mode: Select the dose on screen and the grinder starts immediately. Choose based on your workflow preference.

Portafilter Arm

The variable portafilter arm locks your portafilter in place for hands-free grinding. The anti-vibration coating reduces noise transfer to the portafilter during the grind.

Tutorials & Training

Standard vs. Play Mode

Use Standard Mode when you want to control the exact moment grinding starts — insert the portafilter to trigger. Use Play Mode for a faster workflow where you pre-select the dose and step away — the grinder starts immediately when the dose is selected.

Quick-Release Micrometric

The quick-release system lets you adjust grind size between shots faster than traditional collar-remove adjustment systems. This is particularly useful when dialing in a new coffee — make fine adjustments on the fly.

3.5-Inch HMI for Multi-User Setups

The Spluga's large touchscreen makes it easy for multiple household members to select their dose and mode without reading a tiny display. Customize the button layout to match the drinks each person regularly makes.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Quick-Release Burr Access

The Spluga's quick-release adjustment allows burr access without fully removing the grind adjustment system — making weekly cleaning faster. Brush out the chamber with the included brush.

Touchscreen Care

Wipe the HMI touchscreen with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or moisture on the screen.

Portafilter Arm Cleaning

Wipe the portafilter arm and anti-vibration coating after each session to prevent coffee oil and grounds buildup in the locking mechanism.

Troubleshooting

Grinder Stops Mid-Dose

Check that the portafilter is seated correctly in the arm (Standard Mode). Also verify there's no obstruction in the burr chamber. A thermal overload protection may trigger if the motor overheats — allow 15 minutes to cool before restarting.

Touchscreen Preset Drifting

Re-weigh your output and update the timed preset. As with all timed dosers, routine recalibration when changing beans maintains accuracy.

Grind Too Coarse After Deep Cleaning

When reassembling the quick-release burrs, ensure the collar is fully tightened before locking. A loose collar shifts the effective grind range coarser.

Important: Only adjust grind size while the grinder is running and the burrs are spinning — adjusting with the grinder off can pack grounds in the burr chamber and cause coarse output until cleared.
